FIFA approves five candidates seeking the presidency position

The International Football Federation Association (FIFA) officially confirmed on Tuesday that five contenders have been approved for the organization's presidential elections on February 26. The candidates for the FIFA presidency include Jordanian Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, leading Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from Bahrain, Italian Gianni Infantino, General Secretary of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale, and French diplomat and former FIFA executive Jerome Champagne. Unofficially, Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa and Gianni Infantino are considered the favorites in the election. Earlier, the FIFA Ethics Committee banned UEFA President Michel Platini and FIFA President Sepp Blatter from any football-related activities for eight years, finding them guilty of abusing their positions. These allegations are related to 2 million Swiss francs paid to M. Platini for work done during the period 1999-2002.
