FIFA demanded to investigate the Russian national team for possible doping use

FIFA demanded to conduct doping tests for the entire Russian national football team, which competed in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, reported lrytas.lt.

This information was obtained by FIFA from the portal life.ru. The world football leadership took this step because the independent investigator of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Professor Richard McLaren, in revealing Russia's doping system, also mentioned the entire national team.

Antidoping investigators collected samples from goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, Denis Glushakov, Igor Denisov, Yuri Zhirkov, Aleksandr Kokorin. Suspicion was raised when another 18 Russian footballers who played in the World Cup also came to the investigators' attention.

"We received two requests. Based on them, we sent all the requested information to the WADA organization. More than 20 athletes were included," said Kamila Shafeyeva, a employee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).

Life.ru emphasized that the fact that players are mentioned in R. McLaren's document does not mean that they have violated any rules.

In the World Cup in Brazil, the Russian team earned two points and did not advance past the group stage H.
