The coronavirus pandemic not only adjusted the schedule of the football season, but also forced a review of certain rules. Before resuming national championships, it was decided that teams would be allowed to make not three, but five substitutions during matches. Although it was announced that this change would only be valid for this season, FIFA granted permission to apply this rule until August 31, 2021. This means that the rule of five substitutions can be expected to be seen in the upcoming European Football Championship next year as well. However, all leagues will be able to decide for themselves whether to use this rule.
