FIFA rejected plans to increase the number of participants in the World Cup in Qatar

FIFA informed that due to difficulties, it will not be possible to implement the innovation at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Earlier it was announced that the organization's president Gianni Infantino will make every effort for the number of participants in the world championships to increase from 32 to 48 already at the event taking place in three years, not in 2026.

However, due to political and logistical nuances, these plans will not be implemented.

FIFA has long announced plans to increase the number of teams to 48 from 2026.

"We listened to the opinions of our members and national federations.

For now, most countries agree to increase the number of teams. This would mean that 16 additional teams could enter the World Cup, and about 50-60 countries will have the opportunity to pursue this dream. Whether this is possible, is another question," - previously stated the FIFA leader.
