Fifth round: "Atlantas" defeated "Ekranas" © EuroFootball.com

In the highest Lithuanian championship ("A-League"), four matches of the fifth round were played. The league newcomer "Šilutė" saved themselves from defeat against their table neighbor "Sūduvai" in the last minutes of the match. Klaipėda's "Atlantas" won against "Vilnius" away and tied in points with "Ekranas", who failed to win at home against "Vėtra". The league leader "Kaunas" secured their fourth victory of the season with a minimal result against "Žalgiris".

In the beginning of the first half, neither team managed to create dangerous chances, but Marijampolė had more control over the middle of the field. The hosts had the first real chance - Pastva took a corner, Mačiulis took a shot but the "Sūduva" goalkeeper played confidently and saved his team. Five minutes before the end of the half, Pastva scored after a goalkeeper error, but the referee ruled it offside and the goal was not counted. The second half started with misfortune for "Sūduva", as Butkus was sent off the field for a second yellow card. Immediately after that, "Šilutė" got a penalty kick and Česnulis hit the crossbar. However, it was the visitors who scored first - during a quick counterattack they earned a corner, the ball was passed into the penalty area, Grigas headed it and the ball bounced into the goal. After the goal, the Marijampolė team retreated into defense, and "Šilutė" pressed the opponents, but they couldn't capitalize on their chances. In the 90th minute, a long-range shot by "Šilutė" was blocked by the "Sūduva" goalkeeper, and Mačiulis repeated the shot with his head to equalize the result. The match ended with "Šilutė" winning their first point of the season.

In the ninth minute, team captain Mantas Savėnas brought his team forward after a pass from Vitalijus Kavaliauskas. However, soon after, the "Vėtra" Nigerian legionnaire Izrael Douglas equalized the score by heading the ball into the goal after a corner kick.
