"Football Leaks" on Friday shook the entire football community with investigation details about the activities of "Manchester City" and Paris "Saint-Germain" clubs.
It is well known that both clubs have been under scrutiny for the past few years under the enlarged Financial Fair Play (FFP) lens. However, despite spending almost billion amounts on new players, the clubs remained largely unpunished. For example, Kazan's "Rubin," which violated the same rules, was excluded from all UEFA tournaments.
"Football Leaks" revealed that these two clubs were aided by the highest football authorities - including Gianni Infantino and Michel Platini. Both men used their connections to cover Paris and Manchester clubs, allowing them to simply bypass financial restrictions.
EIC investigative network reveals that they reached out to the "Man City" club with requests to answer questions related to FFP. It is alleged that the club completely ignored this request and, in addition to not responding to the questions, the investigation group wrote: "The attempt to smear the club's name is organized and obvious."
The day before Ferranas Soriano, former CEO of "Man City," signed a peace treaty on behalf of the club, the European football community was shocked by the death of the famous Belgian politician Jean-Luc Dehaene. He was one of the key figures in the FFP investigation into "Man City's" financial activities.
The message from "Manchester City" lawyer Simon Cliff to one of the club's representatives also reveals how FFP was viewed.
"One has already fallen, but there are still more to come," - Cliff wrote in an email to a "Man City" club representative immediately after the death of the mentioned politician.
