On Wednesday evening in Vilnius, the traditional Lithuanian sports management awards ceremony was held, where Edgaras Stankevičius, the President of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), was announced as the Sports Manager of the Year.
The 36-year-old Kaunas native became the President of LFF earlier this year. Since 2018, he held the position of General Secretary of LFF. This year, LFF focused heavily on cooperation with municipalities, higher education institutions, and invested significantly in sports fields and stadiums. In early December, UEFA announced that Lithuania, together with Latvia, will host the 2026 European Futsal Championship.
On September 30, in collaboration with the Kaunas City Municipality and FIFA, LFF organized a grand event at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium - a match between world legends and legendary Lithuanian football players.
“It is very pleasant to receive such recognition. This is an acknowledgment for the entire LFF organization. We have been among the nominees before, so this award only confirms that we are working correctly. The year has truly been successful. We managed to implement many projects, closely cooperate with representatives of the state, municipalities, and other organizations. We received many positive comments about our work, which can be seen in the public space and the media. We also successfully organized a great football weekend in Kaunas, so the year was indeed productive. We are determined to continue working,” said E. Stankevičius.
In the Sports Manager of the Year elections, E. Stankevičius surpassed Eugenijus Andrulis, the head of “RD Signs,“ Gintaras Jasiūnas, the President of the Lithuanian Municipal Sports Managers Association, and Ramūnas Gruša, the President of the Lithuanian Tennis Association.
The football weekend held in Kaunas, which included the FIFA Legends match and the final of the LFF Cup, was recognized as the Sports Event of the Year at the “Lithuanian Sports Management Awards.” Over two days, the event was attended by 16,000 people.
“It is nice to see that Kaunas is becoming a sports city, where basketball, football, and other sports find their place. With an excellent stadium, we always wanted to organize an extraordinary sports event with prominent foreign stars. It was a great honor that even FIFA President Gianni Infantino came to Kaunas, and we welcomed many other distinguished guests. We do not intend to stop there, as we already have new projects in mind,” shared E. Stankevičius.
