Former Barcelona player and club's graduate Jordi Cruyff hoped that his former teammate Josep Guardiola would choose Manchester United instead of Manchester City.
Currently coaching Bayern Munich, J. Guardiola signed a pre-contract with Man City. The Spaniard will take over the coaching duties for the city club from the beginning of next season and will remain there at least until 2019 according to the contract.
J. Cruyff, who moved to Manchester United after four years at Barcelona, wanted to see the strategist in another team in the city.
"I wanted Pep to come to Man Utd because it is a club with a greater history and more traditions," said the Dutchman who currently holds the position of sports director at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
"However, Guardiola will take over as Man City manager at the most appropriate time. They have money for new players and a desire to build a good team," added J. Cruyff.
