The relationship between Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich and the United Kingdom is not over.

BBC sources reveal that the former owner of London’s Chelsea may owe more than £1 billion in unpaid taxes to the United Kingdom.

Documents that were leaked show that £6 billion in investments were funneled through companies based in the British Virgin Islands.

However, evidence suggests that these investments were controlled from the UK, meaning taxes should have gone to this country.

Some of the money that helped the Chelsea team at the time may be linked to these unpaid taxes, adds the BBC newspaper.

After Russia's military invasion of Ukraine in 2022, R. Abramovich sold the Chelsea club to American businessman Todd Boehly.
