"Former club football player should become the sports director of Barcelona"

The former Barcelona footballer Jose Mari Bakero is still considered one of the most realistic candidates to take the vacant position of sports director at "Barcelona," reports the newspaper "Sport."

The Catalan club is looking for a sports director after Andoni Zubizarreta was dismissed from his duties in early January. Although it was thought that a replacement would be found quickly, the search has been prolonged. "Barcelona" will not be able to sign any players in 2015 due to a FIFA sanction, and also the club's president's term will end that same year, so the new sports director will not hold the position for long.

Among the possible contenders, former Barcelona, Valencia, and Espanyol player Oscar Garcia was mentioned, who coached Tel Aviv's "Maccabi" and "Watford" clubs last year, as well as former Barcelona player Francisco Rufete, now working as sports director at Valencia. However, the Spaniard did not agree to leave his current position, so now Barcelona's leaders seem to be considering J. M. Bakero.

Born in the province of Navarre, J. M. Bakero was a member of the legendary Johan Cruyff's "Dream Team" at Barcelona and is still very popular among the team's fans. From 2009 to 2012, the Spaniard coached in Poland, leading the Warsaw team "Polonia" and Poznan's "Lech," and in 2013, he briefly worked as a strategist for the Peruvian club "Juan Aurich."
