Former "Liverpool" striker Rickie Lambert has fondly recalled his childhood team. The 35-year-old footballer ended his career, but ever since he was a little boy, he dreamed of wearing the red jersey and playing at the "Anfield" stadium.
While wearing the "Southampton" jersey, Lambert scored 117 goals in five years. Following such a performance, the striker attracted attention from "Liverpool". In the ranks of the "Reds", the Briton played for only a year and scored just three goals.
It was at this point that the footballer felt he had lost his love for the game, but blamed himself for it.
"I earned really well, but when I started playing football, I didn't do it for the money. And when I decided to go to 'Liverpool', I sacrificed the main striker position and then began to lose my love for this game.
I should never have accepted the offer to be on the bench. Although Brendan Rodgers made it clear to me that I would only be a substitute after Suarez and Sturridge. I was never as fast or technically skilled as the best footballers in the world. But as I stepped onto the field, I convinced myself that I was the best.
When I joined the England national team, I felt lucky. I also felt that way when I arrived at the 'Liverpool' team. But looking back now, I realize that I lost something psychological," Lambert shared his story.
