The best defensive midfielder of the English Premier League N'Golo Kante could have been unknown to many until Leicester City paid for him what Marseille did not want to.
His former 25-year-old teammate at Caen revealed that N. Kante did not want to move to England - his goal was to stay in France, but Marseille did not agree to pay the requested amount for him.
"He wanted to move to Marseille, but they could not meet the financial commitments that Leicester could, so Caen blocked his transfer," said Alexandre Raineau.
"He really wanted to stay in France," concluded the former teammate of the English champion and European vice-champion.
N. Kante, who cost the Foxes £5.6 million in 2015, became a standout star in his debut season and his work in midfield arguably contributed the most to Leicester's historic triumph in the Premier League.
Just a year later, the Frenchman was sold to Chelsea for around £32 million, and with N. Kante leading the way, the club is approaching the title this season.
