Former USSR national team player A. Balis died during a match in Kiev (VIDEO)

One of the best defenders of the Soviet Union national football team, Andriy Bal, died on Saturday in Kiev during a veterans' match. The 56-year-old former Ukrainian football star had recently worked as the deputy sports director of the Kiev "Dynamo" club. The cause of death was a blood clot. Born in Lviv in 1958, A. Bal began his career at the "Karpaty" club and played for Kiev "Dynamo" from 1981 to 1990 (240 matches), with whom he achieved one of the biggest victories in Soviet football - winning the UEFA Cup in 1986. During that time, Kiev "Dynamo" dominated Soviet football, winning the championship and cup four times, and the team was unimaginable without the long-haired defender who could play both as a defender. A. Bal fought against Vilnius "Žalgiris" several times with the "Dynamo" team. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he played for Israeli clubs such as Tel Aviv's "Maccabi" and "Bnei Yehuda." There he began his coaching career, later coaching the Ukrainian national team twice (2003-2007 and 2010-2013), and since 2012 he worked at the "Dynamo" club. He was also an important player for the Soviet Union national team, participating in the 1982 (scoring a goal against Brazil) and 1986 World Cups. In the Kiev "Dynamo" club, sorrow was announced for the second time in a short period - in early August, former Belarusian player Andrei Belkevich also passed away at the age of 42 due to a blood clot.
