The election commission of the Catalonia club officially announced that four candidates had obtained the right to compete for the position of "Barcelona" president on July 18 by collecting and submitting the required number of valid club member signatures.
From the electoral battle, the commission removed the leader of the bloc "Seguiment FCB" Joan Batiste. His supporters collected 2734 signatures, but the election commission recognized only 2518 as valid, meaning that the candidate fell short of a mere 16 signatures to reach the mandatory threshold.
The contenders who wanted to run for the position of "Barcelona" president in the elections had to submit at least 2534 valid signatures of Catalonia club members.
The outgoing "Barcelona" president Josep Maria Bartomeu submitted 9124 signatures of club members. After the verification process, the election commission rejected 6 percent of the signatures and recognized 8554 as valid.
Joan Laporta and his representatives presented 4802 signatures, but 11 percent of them were deemed invalid. This means that the former Catalonia club president will continue the fight in the elections - 4272 of the signatures he submitted are valid.
Former J. Laporta's compatriot and businessman Agusti Benedito will also participate in the elections. Of the 3815 signatures he submitted, 3367 were recognized as valid.
The fight for the president's position will also continue with former "Barcelona" board secretary Toni Freixa. He collected and submitted 3289 signatures, of which 3068 were recognized as valid.
The "Barcelona" president will be determined on the voting day, July 18. The Catalonia club president is elected for a six-year term by a simple majority vote.
