Four Lithuanian champions belonging to FBK will spend the upcoming semester in the team of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, whose management is preparing to be taken over by the owner of the Kaunas club, Vladimiras Romanovas.
The Lithuanian national team's goalkeeper, last season's best in the country's championship, is considered one of the most talented players of his generation, and the youth national team players Gediminas Vičius and Marius Kižys are expected to soon sign a contract with "Hearts" valid until the summer of this year.
A couple of weeks ago, about 20 footballers from Eastern Europe, including 9 players from "Kaunas" and the Lithuanian under-20 national team, went to Scotland for a tryout. It seems that from the latter team, "Hearts" sports director Anatolijus Byšovecas spotted 19-year-old Gediminas Vičius, who has recently been playing in the reserve team of "Kauno Jėgeriai."
The 22-year-old defender Marius Kižys, belonging to Kaunas, was loaned to "Šilutė" last year, while Gedgaudas and Mikoliūnas successfully represented "Kaunas" in 2004 and won the "A Lyga" championship.
As reported by "Scotsman," Edinburgh team head coach John Robertson was pleased with the new players, whose salaries will be paid by V. Romanovas, but they will not be required to play in the main lineup.
"This quartet of players is not bad, and perhaps they will fill the gaps in the team. I have only 18 players, and these guys were invited to the club without paying anything. They play in positions where we don't have much choice," Robertson said. "No one is pressuring me to put them in the starting lineup, but they will be ready if needed. These are players who will help us until the summer."
