The head coach Frank Rijkaard has extended his contract with the Spanish champions until 2009, the club announced on Monday. The former Dutch national team defender has been negotiating a new contract for some time, and although it was announced a couple of months ago that F. Rijkaard had extended his contract, he officially did so only now. At the age of 42, F. Rijkaard arrived at the Catalan superclub in 2003 and signed a three-year contract at that time. In his first season at the helm, he helped Barcelona win the league silver, and in the last season, his players became the Spanish champions. In the Dutch coach's trophy list, there is also the Spanish Super Cup won against Sevilla's "Betis" in August.
