Francesco Totti was disqualified for five matches and expressed disappointment that he would not be able to help the club in the fight for survival in Serie A.
"This is the most difficult period in my entire career at Roma," Totti said. "I am most disappointed that I cannot help my teammates."
Roma, currently in thirteenth place in Serie A, is only five points away from relegation.
"I saw how the team fought for every ball in Sunday's match against Brescia, but we failed to win," explained Totti.
Totti's five-game suspension was imposed after he struck Siena player Francesco Colonnese.
Totti admitted fault for his behavior, but will try to overturn the suspension tomorrow in the appeals process, claiming he was provoked into such actions.
