Futsal A League – the decisive stretch of the season

After a two-week break, the "TOPsport futsal A league" returns. This weekend, the matches of the 13th round will be played in four arenas, including the clash between Vilkaviškis "Bruklinas" and Jonavos "Vikingai".

Since the beginning of autumn, these teams have already faced each other twice (in the championship and in the super cup tournament), and on both occasions, the script unfolded very similarly - the "Vikingai" gained the upper hand, but towards the end of the duel, "Bruklinas" demonstrated their strength. In one instance, this granted the Vilkaviškis team a spot in the super cup final, and in the other, they secured three points in the tournament table.

"Both times we controlled everything, but a few moments turned everything upside down. In the upcoming match, we simply cannot repeat the same mistakes; we must remain focused for all 40 minutes, because in the event of a loss, we practically close the struggle for the top three."

"We haven't taken much of a break; I believe we should be ready to fight for victory and those very important three points," said "Vikingai" captain Paulius Osauskas.

"We know that the 'Vikingai' are a very strong team, and they are favorites every time we play against each other. Perhaps this factor hindered them in the first matches when they thought the job was done, while there was still enough time for us to come back into the game and fight for victories."

This time we must be focused and patient in defense from the first minutes, especially in standard situations. The holidays were not just for us but for our opponents as well, and whoever concentrated more on training rather than on parties will suffer less while fighting on the court for points," shared "Bruklinas" captain Gintaras Čibirka.

In other matches, the reigning champion "Kauno Žalgiris" will aim for their eleventh consecutive victory. The Kaunas team will face the "Akmenės kraštas" footballers, who have been struggling to find their form. It is worth noting that the latter ended 2024 with a loss against "VGTU Vilkai".

"We hope to return victorious. A strong opponent awaits, who, I believe, is not in the right place on the championship table, so we cannot let our guard down. Tough matches are ahead," said Justinas Zagurskas.

The "VGTU Vilkai" will also seek their second consecutive victory. Having defeated "Akmenės kraštas" before the New Year, this time the Vilnius team will try to take revenge on the Mažeikiai VIP team at home.

"The victory against 'Akmenės kraštas' has already been forgotten during the holidays. Everyone rested, and the question is whether we are tired from the rest. I think the holiday period will have the greatest impact on all teams; we are not an exception. In any case, we expect a victory against VIP," said Marijus Rimas.

Prior to the already mentioned matches, the 13th round of the "TOPsport futsal A league" will kick off with "Gargždų pramogų" and "Radviliškio" teams, who occupy the second and seventh places respectively. In the first round encounter between these teams, the gargždai team triumphed.

"We had a few days off during the holiday season, so the start of the match should be tough until we feel the rhythm of the game again. In my opinion, the match should be interesting since it will be a balanced fight. It is never easy in Radviliškis," said the league's top scorer of the season Deividas Reimaris.
