Gianluigi Buffon confirmed that Arsène Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson were unable to secure his signature before he moved to Juventus.
In 2001, G. Buffon transferred from Parma to Juventus for a fee of 53 million euros, which still remains the highest ever paid for a goalkeeper. However, the Italian could have moved elsewhere.
"As far as I know, there were serious talks with English clubs who wanted me," said G. Buffon. "Two of them attracted me when I was part of the Parma team. I know that Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger asked about me, and later, when I was a Juventus player, I was invited by Manchester City."
"There are plenty of reasons why nothing happened. Although the Premier League is special, I always wanted to remain loyal to the Juventus club. I have always been successful here and did not want to change anything," added the footballer.
G. Buffon has triumphed 9 times in the Italian Serie A during his career and once in the World Cup with the national team. Tomorrow, the goalkeeper will have the opportunity to win the Champions League for the first time when he faces the Real Madrid team.
