Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has reflected on the most painful failure of his career.
Throughout his incredible career, the 45-year-old representative of "Parma" played numerous matches, but, according to the world champion, the match against the Manchester team stuck with him the most.
In 2019, G. Buffon represented the Parisian club "Saint Germain", which unexpectedly lost to "Man Utd" in the Champions League quarter-final series.
The first match between the teams at "Old Trafford" stadium ended 2-0 in favor of the visitors, but the "Red Devils" managed to come back in France (3-1). Taking advantage of the then-existing away goals rule, the English team moved on to the next round.
"We let the victory slip through our hands. In Paris, "Man Utd" let children onto the pitch. Of course, among them were players like David De Gea, Romelu Lukaku, or Marcus Rashford, but the other players were young.
We lost psychologically and, probably, that was the most painful failure of my career. At that time, we were very strong, it was a mega team," clarified G. Buffon.
