England's national team center-back Gary Cahill believes that the results of the group stage in this European championship mean nothing yet and any team can still surprise.
Managed by Roy Hodgson, England started their performance in the Old Continent tournament from Group B, where they were joined by Wales, Slovakia, and Russia. England fell behind Wales, but in the quarter-finals they will face a beatable opponent - Iceland. In the next stage of the tournament, England could face the winner of the France/Ireland pair.
"There are quite a few teams that have really left a good impression on me. I think this European championship is quite open to all teams. Spain, France, Germany - these are the teams that always play in the later stages. But will all these teams go far? I don't think so," said G. Cahill.
"We have nothing to fear and we have to show the mentality we showed in the group stage. This championship is quite tough for all teams. For example, France beat Albania 2-0 and it might seem like an easy victory, but we know very well that those matches were not easy at all.
Often others expect one team to come into the field and be much better than the other, but that's not the case. All teams here fight to the death, no matter how difficult it is," added the defender.
In the quarter-finals, England will face Iceland on Monday at 22:00.
