Gerard Piqué confirmed that there were intense discussions about Neymar's return to the club during the summer.
It's no secret that Barcelona tried to bring back the Brazilian, who himself had expressed a desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain. The deal didn't go through because Barcelona didn't satisfy the conditions set by the Parisians.
Speaking on the "Cadena SER" radio show, G. Piqué hinted that some players were willing to change the way their salaries were paid just to help the club avoid financial problems if Neymar returned.
"We didn't offer our own money," denied G. Piqué when rumors surfaced over the summer.
"We just told the president that we could change our contracts, because we knew there were certain problems with Financial Fair Play rules.
We told the president that instead of a certain annual salary, we could receive that amount over two, three, or even four years.
All we wanted was to help the club avoid any financial violations. By accepting such a salary payment method, we wouldn't have violated any rules.
We wouldn't have had to reduce our salaries, it was just a search for a new formula that could help us acquire Neymar. We thought it was a good idea at the time, but then other problems arose," the defender said.
