For the third consecutive year, the "Kauno Žalgiris" football club, decorated with bronze medals in the Lithuanian football championship, extended its contract with another player from last season. In the upcoming season, Gratas Sirgėdas will continue to wear the team's jersey. This will be the fifth season for the 26-year-old defender in the Kaunas team. So far, the player has managed to play 57 matches, scoring 11 goals and making 10 assists. G. Sirgėdas had a particularly successful start to the 2021 season. In 13 matches, he scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists, but suffered an injury at the end of May, causing him to miss the rest of the season. "Although the start of the season was really optimistic for both the team and me personally, I couldn't evaluate the season positively after such an injury. December 1 was exactly six months after the operation. There was a desire to return to the field earlier than this deadline, but ultimately we decided not to take any risks. At the moment, I feel good, dedicating all my time to recovery and strengthening. I will be fully ready for the first round of the A League," said the player on Žalgiris.lt. As one of the team's leaders, he was constantly called up to the Lithuanian men's national football team, and will continue to delight "Kauno Žalgiris" fans in the next season. "I wanted to extend what went very well at the beginning of last season. Of course, it also coincided with my, the management's, and the coaches' ambitions for the coming years," commented the player on his decision to stay in Kaunas. Earlier, the club also extended contracts with Deividas Mikelionis and Karolis Šilkaičius, and bid farewell to Steven Thicot, Emmanuel David, and Deividas Šešplaukis.
