One of the best Lithuanian goalkeepers of all time is ending his professional footballer career and will work as a goalkeeper coach in Moscow. This was announced on Sunday by the internet site of the club in the Russian capital.

Recently parting ways with the team "Jūrmala", 37-year-old G. Staučė, who wore the "Spartak" jersey from 1988 to 1994, will now temporarily take over the position of goalkeeper coach previously held by Andrej Širajevas.

G. Staučė has represented the Lithuanian national team 61 times, trailing only by four matches played to the current coach of "Herfolge" Aurelijus Skarbalius. The goalkeeper announced his retirement from the national team in August 2004, just before the qualification for the 2006 World Cup.

For the last three years, the player has been playing in Latvia with the team "Jūrmala", but his contract was not extended after the last season. Known for his hard work throughout his career, G. Staučė has also played in Turkey for teams like Istanbul's "Galatasaray", Izmyr's "Karsiyaka", Istanbul's "Saryerspor", in Germany's Bundesliga against "Duisburg", and represented Athens' "Akratitos", "Fostiras", and "Kallithea" teams in Greece.
