General Secretary of the Belarusian Football Federation: "We see no reason to stop the league"

While the whole world anxiously observes the situation caused by the coronavirus, in Belarus the top football league matches continue.

In our neighboring country, officially less than 400 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, although the data may not be accurate and the situation could be much worse.

Nevertheless, the General Secretary of the Belarusian Football Federation, Sergey Zardeckis, is convinced that there is no need to stop the competitions.

"Every day we monitor the situation. We have complete confidence in our healthcare system and see no reason to halt the league.

We understand that the situation is very serious in some countries, but we consult with various institutions in Belarus and believe that we can continue the season at the moment," Zardeckis explained to ESPN.

The BFF General Secretary also acknowledged that the Belarusian top league is now receiving much more attention, but he stated that it is not the most important issue at the moment.

"Of course, additional popularity is good for our football. We receive more attention from television and the Belarusian league is now being broadcast in certain countries. However, at the moment, we should not talk too much about commercial aspects," added Zardeckis.
