Spanish championship leader Gerard's left leg surgery was successfully performed during lunch yesterday, which means he won't be able to play for about two months.

Former Valencia player's injury relapsed during Friday's training session, and it was decided to operate on the player as soon as possible. After the surgery performed yesterday, the defender will be out for six to eight weeks.

For now, the player is still in the hospital, but he will be discharged no later than Monday.

It was also revealed this week that Barcelona will be without Swedish striker Henrik Larsson, who suffered a serious knee injury this season.

Gerard, 25, became the fifth injured Barcelona player. Earlier, besides Larsson, defender Thiago Motta and defenders Edmilson and Gabri also suffered serious injuries.
