After an impressive performance at the 2014 World Cup, Germany named the player of the year as Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper of Bayern Munich.
His votes were cast by German journalists. Neuer received 144 votes, while Marco Reus came second with 135 votes, and Thomas Muller came in third with 105 votes.
This prestigious award is not new to Neuer. He was also named Germany's best footballer in 2011.
"It is a great honor for me," said the goalkeeper. "I did not expect this award, but I have to admit that I played really well. This award is something you will never forget for the rest of your life."
Neuer, along with his German teammates, triumphed at the World Cup and was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Last season, he also managed to win two titles with Bayern Munich - the German championship and the cup.
