Germany faced accusations of buying the right to host the 2006 World Cup

FIFA scandal supported by another scandal. The publication "Spiegel" reports that Germany possibly improperly obtained the right to host the 2006 World Cup. It is alleged that before deciding who should be granted the right to organize the event, famous representatives of the country, Franz Beckenbauer and Wolfgang Niersbach, devised a scheme in which the then head of the company "adidas", Robert Louis-Dreyfus, transferred nearly 10.3 million Swiss francs to Asian delegates. This happened before Germans were announced as the tournament organizers on July 6, 2000. However, these "adidas" funds, which they lent to Beckenbauer's committee, were not noted in any reports. A year and a half before the 2006 World Cup, FIFA suspiciously agreed to transfer around 6.7 million euros back to the company. Today, the German Football Federation immediately issued a statement, ensuring that they conducted an internal investigation and did not find any connections to improper transactions for almost sixteen years.
