On Thursday evening, the second semi-final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup took place in Sochi.
The national teams of Germany and Mexico fought for a spot in the final. The young Germans did not leave any hope for the North American champions - they crushed them with a score of 4-1 and advanced to the final.
The Germans started the match very powerfully - the first goal fell into Guillermo Ochoa's goal in the 6th minute. After a brilliant pass from Benjamin Henrichs, Leon Goretzka, who left the opponents' defenders behind, put the Germans ahead.
Germany's footballers, who quickly scored the first goal, did not stop attacking - just two minutes later, the same L. Goretzka once again defeated the Mexican goal, this time with a successful pass from the team's defender Timo Werner.
The Mexicans were sent reeling, and the dangerous German attacks continued. In the 18th minute, T. Werner had a perfect opportunity to extend the lead, but the young "Leipzig" forward failed to beat G. Ochoa one-on-one.
Later, the Mexicans calmed down and took control of the game into their hands. In the 22nd minute, Marco-Andre ter Stegen's alertness was tested by Giovani dos Santos, but the German goalkeeper confidently handled his task.
In the 35th minute, Javier Hernandez had a perfect chance to reduce the deficit, but alone against the goalkeeper, the "pea" unsuccessfully tried to lift the ball over Ter Stegen - the ball flew over the crossbar.
In the second half, Mexico continued to show a desire to at least fight for extra time in these matches, but all hopes were shattered by T. Werner, who scored in the 59th minute after a brilliant pass from Jonas Hector.
The Germans fully believed in victory and tried to finish the match playing only in defense. The Mexicans had their chances - in the 70th minute, Ter Stegen repelled another great shot, and just a few minutes later, Miguel Layun hit the goalpost.
However, the Mexican national team managed to score a goal of honor in the 89th minute - a magnificent shot from about 35 meters by Marco Fabian left no hope for the goalkeeper.
The Mexican national team tried to create some intrigue, but in the first minute of added time, the final word in this match was said by the German Amin Younes.
The Germans celebrated a convincing victory with a score of 4-1 and on Sunday at 21:00 Lithuania time will face Chile in St. Petersburg for the Confederations Cup trophy.
In the battle for third place in Sochi, Portugal and Mexico's footballers will face off.
