Gerrard: the last years were the hardest in his career © EuroFootball.com

Captain Steven Gerrard admitted that the last 12 months were the hardest in his career.

The 'Reds' faced a crisis due to the former owners' unwillingness to sell the club, but Gerrard believes that the worst is already in the past.

"I think the last 12 months have been the toughest since I turned 18 and broke into the first team," said the Brit. "We only finished 7th in the league, there were many off-field issues."

"After a disappointing World Cup, I needed that the least. The club too. We were all shocked, so it wasn't easy to start the season. But I hope the future will be better."
