Legendary England national team player Gary Lineker believes that the best player of this world championship is N'Golo Kante.
Representing the French national team as a midfielder, Kante will face a crucial match against Croatia in the final for the cup, where Luka Modrić is also constantly praised among their ranks.
However, the former Barcelona striker is more impressed by Kante's playing.
"In my eyes, N'Golo has been the best player of this world championship so far," Lineker told L'Equipe. "He is not quite the guy we talk about or try to present as a star."
"With Kante, France plays with 12 players. He alone counts as two midfielders. He is everywhere."
"His passing quality is flawless and he can break the opponents' lines. He can push the ball forward. Frankly, having Kante in the team is a huge advantage. He is one of the main parts of the French national team and one of the reasons why they are big favorites to win the final."
Lineker really enjoys Kante's game as a midfielder for Chelsea in London.
"I am a big fan of his," admitted the Englishman. "In his position he is the best player I have seen."
"He reads the game incredibly. He intercepts balls that are impossible to intercept. He runs everywhere. He is a real thief. The way he takes the balls from opponents without them noticing is incredible. Then he is very fast with the ball."
"He is not only extremely important for the team's balance but also helps his teammates. Would Pogba be as green without Kante? Would center backs Samuel Umtiti and Raphael Varane have the same guarantees if N'Golo wasn't next to them?"
Lineker also added that he believes France lost the European championship final two years ago against Portugal precisely because Kante was left on the bench in that match.
