The former coach of the Italian national team, Giovanni Trapattoni, is once again without a job - on Friday, the team announced that they are dismissing the Italian from his position as head coach.
Trapattoni took over the team at the beginning of this season, but he failed to create a team capable of competing for top positions in the Bundesliga. Currently, Stuttgart is in a modest 6th place with 27 points after 20 matches in the German league.
There were talks about the Italian's dismissal even before the winter break, but the club management agreed to give the coach time to improve the team's performance. However, after the resumption of the league, Stuttgart managed to secure only two goalless draws and suffered a 1-0 defeat to the newcomer Duisburg.
The patience of the team's leaders ran out after the last Bundesliga match, in which Stuttgart played a goalless draw against Werder. However, despite everything, Stuttgart's club president Erwin Staudtas mentioned that they still respect Trapattoni.
"He is a true gentleman and undoubtedly one of the best coaches in the world," Staudtas said. "Unfortunately, he was not able to achieve the results we expected from him in our team."
