Guardiola: It's not easy when ten "Chelsea" players defend in the penalty area. © EuroFootball.com

Strategist Pep Guardiola admits that next week new ways will have to be found to break through London's defense.

In the first leg of the Champions League semi-final match in England, the Catalans dominated, but failed to convert any chances - goalkeeper Petr Cech played well, while Alexis Sanchez and Pedro hit the goal frame. However, Didier Drogba took advantage, sending the ball into the net just before halftime - it was the only shot on target from the hosts, securing a 1-0 victory.

"It's not easy when ten opponents defend almost in the penalty area and capitalize on a single quick attack," Guardiola said. "But such challenges await in reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League - we must accept them and try to solve the problems.

"We will have to look for other ways to create opportunities. Chelsea defend very deep, so we will need patience and inspiration. Nevertheless, even tonight we had many chances to score."

Meanwhile, Chelsea coach Roberto Di Matteo celebrated the victory, but added that both teams' chances to reach the final remain equal.

"The result, of course, is great," the Italian said. "We knew we would have to defend a lot against Barcelona. In a match against any team - Real Madrid or Milan - they control the ball for a long time, so you have to reduce the number of opportunities to a minimum and take advantage of your chances.

"I think the chances of progressing remain 50-50. Away games are ahead, which will certainly be difficult. However, my players have already proven that they have enough determination, courage, and ability to compete against this excellent team."

The second leg will take place on April 24 at the "Camp Nou" stadium.
