London club and Iceland national team forward Eidur Gudjohnsen was chosen as Iceland's 2004 athlete, 17 years after his father Arnor Gudjohnsen had received the same award.

Eidur Gudjohnsen was born in 1978, when his father, who played professional football in Belgium, was only 17 years old.

Nine years after his son's birth, Arnor Gudjohnsen was awarded athlete of the year by Icelandic sports journalists, the same award his son received this year.

Eidur Gudjohnsen, who in the 2000s transferred to Chelsea, proved to be a valuable part of the team, earning a place in the main lineup despite the large number of expensive stars at the London club.

His eight goals this season helped Chelsea gain a five-point lead in the English Championship against London and advance to the further stage of the UEFA Champions League, where they will face.
