On Sunday, the remaining two matches of the 27th round were played in French football stadiums, where "Sochaux" and "Nantes" teams faced off, as well as "Marseille" and "Lens" teams.
The central match of the day took place in Marseille, where the local "Marseille" team, currently occupying the second place in "Ligue 1", hosted the team of "Lens" who recently withdrew from the Coupe de France tournament. In a fiercely contested match, neither team could find a way to finish their attacks. The decisive moment came in the third quarter of the second half, when the recently crowned best young African footballer, "Marseille" defender Taye Taiwo, pushed an opponent in the penalty area and earned a penalty kick for his team from eleven meters, which was successfully converted by "Lens" attacking leader Aruna Dindane.
That was the only goal in this match, so "Lens" celebrated a narrow 0-1 victory and firmly holds the second place in the tournament table. Meanwhile, "Marseille" after this setback with 38 points occupies only 8th position and gradually falls behind their rivals in the fight for a place in the UEFA Champions League.
In other Sunday matches, the battling for European places "Sochaux" and the last-placed "Nantes" clubs also tested their strengths. This time the latter proved to be the stronger, winning a somewhat unexpected victory with a score of 1-2 and moving up from last place, pushing down the sensational "P.S.G" team that defeated "Sedan" on Saturday. "Nantes" took the lead in this match in the 22nd minute, when Dimitri Payet scored a goal. However, the first half ended in a draw, as in the 34th minute Alvaro Santos successfully converted an 11-meter penalty kick for "Nantes's" goal. Nevertheless, in the second half, in less than five minutes, Claudiu Keseru again put "Nantes" ahead and this result remained until the end of the match.
