The Madrid security guard Guti, who is in great form, stated that his main goal is to earn a spot in the Spanish national team, which will compete in the World Cup in Germany this summer.
“The biggest goal in my life is to play in the World Cup. I dream about it every day,” the Spaniard told the sports newspaper “AS” on Tuesday. “I set this goal for myself at the beginning of the season and I can't stop thinking about it. I want to play in Germany and I hope I will succeed."
The 29-year-old guard rarely played for the Spanish national team since his debut against Croatia in 1999. His opportunities were very limited because he played little for the Royal club.
The guard last represented the Spanish national team in the summer of 2005 in a match against San Marino, which Spain won 5-0.
This season, the versatile guard started in the starting lineup in 13 out of 19 matches for the Royal club in the Spanish championship and was undoubtedly one of the most stable and reliable players.
Guti was in great form in Sunday's match against Sevilla, where the Royal club celebrated a 4-2 victory, and the Spaniard himself scored a goal and made two assists to Zinedine Zidane.
Since Barcelona star Xavi's chances of participating in the World Cup were greatly affected by a serious road injury, Guti is one of the most realistic contenders to take his place in the national team led by Luis Aragones.
“I feel more confident than ever,” Guti stated. “I am in great form both physically and in terms of my game.”
Spain has been placed in Group H in the World Cup, which begins on June 9, and will compete against Ukraine, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia.
