The legend of "Real" Madrid, Jose Maria Gutierrez Hernandez, known in the football world simply as Guti, has decided to end his professional football career.
The 35-year-old midfielder represented various age group "Real" youth teams for nine years, and after making it into the main squad from 1995 to 2010, he played 542 official matches. During these matches, the footballer scored 77 goals and became a legend of the "Royal Club."
In the last two seasons, the Spaniard played for Istanbul's "Besiktas," and at the beginning of this season, he was left without a club.
"I had offers, but I decided to retire. The decision has already been made, and now I will be able to spend more time with my family," said Guti in a radio show.
The footballer played in the famous "Real" team, known as "Los Galacticos," alongside Roberto Carlos, David Beckham, Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Raul, and others. The midfielder was also known for his somewhat difficult character, which, according to some experts, hindered him from fully showcasing his talent throughout his career.
Guti played only 13 matches for the Spanish national team in six years and never played in major tournaments. He won the European Championship with the U-18 and U-21 teams, but he could not establish himself in the men's team.
During his 15-year professional career at "Real," the midfielder won the UEFA Champions League three times, the Spanish "La Liga" championship five times, and the national cup four times. In the 2010-2011 season, he also won the Turkish championship with "Besiktas."
"I want to coach young players, and my biggest dream is to work in the youth academy of `Real`," admitted Guti.
