The Italian Football Federation did not wait long and showed the door to the national team coach Giampiero Ventura.
The team led by the 69-year-old coach suffered one of the biggest failures in the country's football history and did not qualify for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
After the fiasco, the specialist refused to leave his post voluntarily.
"During the Federation's meeting, the result of the qualifying matches was discussed and following President Carlo Tevecchio's instructions, the entire coaching staff was dismissed, which means that G. Ventura will no longer coach the Italian team," - says an official statement.
Earlier, Ventura's contract had been extended until 2020, but it would only come into effect if the team qualified for the World Cup.
According to local media reports, now the federation will continue to pay the coach a monthly salary, until next summer the Italian will receive 866 thousand euros.
It is noted that if the veteran finds another job, the payments will be stopped.
