The club aiming for the title of German champions this season continues to strengthen. After renting Brazilian Ailton's team on Tuesday, another player joined the team - becoming Dutch national team defender Nigel de Jong, who is moving from Amsterdam club to "Hamburger" for 1.5 million euros.
21-year-old De Jong's contract with "Ajax" was set to expire next summer, so the talented player was being courted by many European clubs. However, the success of another former "Ajax" defender Rafael van der Vaart at the German team seemed to attract De Jong as well - he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the club on Thursday.
Having played for four years in the "Ajax" club and represented the Dutch national team 10 times, De Jong will try to help the "Hamburger" team catch up with the Bundesliga leader, Munich's "Bayern", who are six points ahead. The Hamburg club also participates in the UEFA Europa League, where they will play against the Swiss team "Thun" in the round of 16.
