The real miracle in the UEFA Champions League was created by Erik ten Hagas of Amsterdam's "Ajax".
In the crucial semi-final match on Wednesday, "Ajax" dramatically let the victory slip from their hands and the ticket to the final. "Ajax" was leading 2-0 after the first half, but after the break, the awakened London's "Tottenham" club triumphed sensationally with a score of 3-2.
The defeat was especially painful for the "Ajax" team because the third goal that eliminated them from the tournament came in the last seconds of the match.
"After the match, I told the players that it is incredibly difficult to find the right words at such a moment and that football can be cruel," E. ten Hagas said.
"That is the cruellest part of football that we must accept today. We will not be able to forget it in the coming hours or days, but we still must move on.
I will not blame the players for this, because we all understand that the Champions League is unique, and only a few seconds separated us from reaching the final. We will need time to recover, but we have no other choice.
"New matches await us on Sunday, and we must start preparing for them now," said the "Ajax" strategist about the most painful moment of his career.
