The Spanish national team secured a place in next year's European Championship on Tuesday evening, although they did not claim victory during their double trip to Scandinavia.
On Saturday, the Spaniards played a 1-1 draw with the Norwegians in Oslo, and on Tuesday in Stockholm - with the same result against the Swedes.
"The result is the same, it just looked like a loss one day and a win the next. I am pleased with the team's performance and the players. We had opportunities to score more, but we did not take advantage of them. The most important thing is that we secured a ticket to the European Championship," said coach Robert Moreno.
R. Moreno attributed this achievement to former Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique. The latter left his post due to his daughter's serious illness, who died in September. R. Moreno became the coach of "La Furia Roja" in June.
"We want to share our joy with L. Enrique and his family. His work with the team helped us become stronger and we are grateful to him for that. I also thank the Spanish Football Federation for the opportunity given to me. We could have achieved the goal in Norway, but we played a draw and had to work hard in the match against the Swedes. But it's great that we qualified for EURO 2020 earlier than the end of the qualifying tournament," R. Moreno said.
Although Spain qualified for the European Championships with 2 rounds left until the end of the qualifying matches, the team faced criticism for not being able to win in Oslo or Stockholm.
"This is football. It is obvious that if we do not win every game, people start talking that we are not playing at our level and are not among the strongest teams. I think that is logical. We definitely have room for improvement," said defender Rodri.
In Group F of the qualifiers, Spain has two remaining inconsequential matches in November at home against the Maltese and Romanian national teams.
