fter a series of poor results, Argentine Hector Cuper resigned from the position of head coach.

"Mallorca" released a statement saying that on Tuesday the fifty-year-old H. Cuper handed in his resignation request to club president Vicente Grande, which was accepted.

Temporarily, while a new coach is found, the team will be led by Damia Ameras and Tonis Servera.

On Sunday, after playing a 1-1 draw with Madrid's "Getafe," "Mallorca" footballers dropped to the last - twentieth - place in the Spanish championship. Also, Sunday's match was the ninth in a row where "Mallorca" did not secure a victory.

H. Cuper took over the helm at "Mallorca" for the second time in his career in November 2004, replacing the dismissed Benito Floro.

The first time H. Cuper led "Mallorca" was from 1997 to 1999 and then took them to the final of the Spanish King's Cup, the final of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and helped achieve the highest position in the club's history - third place in the Spanish championship.

In 1999, the Argentine took over at "Valencia," replacing Claudio Ranieri, and led the team to the UEFA Champions League final for two consecutive years, where they lost to Madrid's "Real" in 2000 and to Munich's "Bayern" in 2001 after a penalty shootout.

In 2001, H. Cuper took over at Milan's "Inter" replacing Marco Tardelli and almost won the Italian championship in the following season, but lost to Rome's "Lazio" in the last round.

In 2003, "Inter" once again finished in second place in the Italian championship, but in October of that year, H. Cuper was dismissed after the team failed to win four consecutive matches.
