The Edinburgh club owned by Lithuanian businessman Vladimir Romanov aims to maintain the core of the team. It is precisely because of the new club owner that "Hearts" stars are offered contract extensions.
The contract with the Edinburgh club was extended by the team captain Steven Pressley. The 31-year-old defender signed a new two-year contract with the club with the possibility of extending it for another year if Pressley plays enough matches for Edinburgh. The Scottish national team defender was very pleased with his decision: "I always said I wanted to stay here, so I am very happy, even though at times it seemed we were very far from an agreement."
Pressley also stated that he would like to continue playing even at the age of 37: "When the contract expires, I will only be 35, so I really want to continue playing, maybe until I'm 37."
The Hearts coach John Robertson also praised his defender: "Steven is priceless, not in terms of money, but in his influence on the team."
Recently, an offer to extend the contract was also made to one of the team leaders, Paul Hartley, who was invited to the Scottish national team for the first time in his career these days. The impressive 28-year-old midfielder, who has been outstanding this year, should announce his decision on contract extension in the next two weeks.
Previously, the Hearts management expressed interest in acquiring the young Lee Miller, who is currently playing on loan in Edinburgh and whose goals have already helped the Scottish club several times this season. The Hearts also want to extend contracts with all three Lithuanians: Saulius Mikoliūnas, Deividas Česnauskis, and Marius Kižys.
