“TOPsport A lygos” 7th round started with quite unexpected result in Kaunas. Alytus DFK "Dainava" achieved their third victory as guests, defeating Kauno rajono "Hegelmann" footballers with a score of 1:0 (0:0).
In the first half, the hosts controlled the ball longer, but the best opportunity came in the 36th minute for Artiomas Baftalovskis. His shot was saved by Vincentas Šarkauskas, and three minutes later, a long-range attempt by Patrick Popescu flew next to the goalpost.
After the break, "Dainava" paid more attention to their goal security. However, "Hegelmann" team had a few grateful moments to break forward. Artemas Ščedras and Leo Ribeiro both had shots on goal, and the Brazilian player failed to lift the ball over Volodymyr Krynskyi.
The pressure from the hosts increased - Michael Thuique came close to scoring, but in the 87th minute, the opponents capitalized on a mistake and launched a successful counterattack. Renatas Banevičius made a pass to Chibuike Nwosu who appeared after a substitution - the Nigerian scored his first goal in "TOPsport A lyga".
The blue and whites could have equalized, but Vilijus Armalis's header was saved by V. Krynskis.
After the victory, "Dainava" rose to the 3rd place with 12 points, while the footballers from Kauno rajonas dropped to the 4th position with 11 points.
