The club that finished in ninth place in the previous Bundesliga championship has a new strategist - Holger Fach has been officially appointed as the new head coach of the team. Former Borussia Mönchengladbach manager will replace Erik Gerets, who moved to Galatasaray in Istanbul last week, as the head coach of Wolfsburg. Gerets led the team since last season and managed to lift the team from the relegation zone to the top of the table. Under Fach's leadership, Borussia started last season tragically, collecting only 9 points in the first ten matches. The coach was dismissed from the team in October and has not coached any team since then. It is believed that the 42-year-old German signed a contract with Wolfsburg that obliges him to stay at the club until the summer of 2007. "Holger Fach is a great person, a great strategist, who has accumulated a lot of experience in Bundesliga championships both as a coach and as a player," said Wolfsburg's sports director Thomas Strunz. "I believe that we will achieve our main goal next season with this coach - to qualify for a UEFA tournament." However, achieving this goal for Wolfsburg could be very difficult, as one of the team's leaders, Argentine midfielder Andres D'Alessandro, has announced his departure from the club. The 24-year-old Argentina international has recently had some disagreements with the club's management and has now stated that he would like to leave Germany during the summer. "I no longer want to represent Wolfsburg," D'Alessandro told a German newspaper. "My dream is to play in the Spanish La Liga and I hope to make it a reality."
