On Sunday afternoon in Kuršėnai, there was a match of the Lithuanian Football League, where the local team "Venta" played against the footballers of Vilnius "Polonija". Although the capital city team celebrated a 2:0 victory, the match took an unexpected turn for the visiting fans - they were attacked by masked men.

Four fans who came with the Vilnius team settled in the stand designated for the visiting fans. In the 29th minute of the first half, a group of hooligans invaded the stadium.

The infiltrators, hiding their faces behind masks and scarves, unexpectedly attacked the "Polonija" fans from behind. Trying to escape the hooligans' blows, some of the attacked fans ran onto the field. This led to the match being stopped.

Ignoring the players and the referees, the "Polonija" hooligans attacked the fans on the field. One boy, knocked down on the grass, was kicked with feet.

When the players and security staff rushed to help, the hooligans retreated to the pine forest.

It wasn't difficult for the attackers to escape, as the football stadium on Daugėlių street is not fenced.

Police officers called to the scene detained 15 suspects.

It turned out that none of the detained suspects were fans of the football club "Venta." Ten hooligans came to Kuršėnai from Vilnius, one from Kaunas, and four from Šiauliai.

According to the football club manager R. Tamošaičio, the fans of Kuršėnai "Venta" are not aggressive and similar incidents have not occurred in their stadium before.
