"Panevėžys” made a breakthrough during the past week.

The team from Aukštaitija, which usually performs poorly in Lithuania, managed to defeat the Finnish champions HJK in the first round of the Champions League qualifiers. The first leg ended with a 3:0 victory for the Lithuanians, while in the second leg they maintained the advantage with a 1:1 draw.

In the next round of the Champions League qualifiers, "Panevėžys” will face the team from Białystok, "Jagiellonia”.

Currently, "Panevėžys” needs just one series victory in the next 3 series to at least qualify for the Conference League group stage. Two series victories would secure a place in the Europa League, while three would secure a place in the Champions League.

The potential opponents will be revealed after the draw, which will take place next Monday.

The only Lithuanian team besides Vilnius' "Žalgiris” to have reached the group stage in Europe was 2 seasons ago in the Conference League.
