How relevant is "speed" in sports betting? Is it a good betting strategy? © JumpStory

One thing that often happens in sports betting is that the coefficients of a certain sports event include the dynamics of teams or athletes.
In short, when making decisions related to coefficients, the individuals who shape them take into account the previous performance of teams and the winning streak. All Lithuanian bookmakers acknowledge the importance of "momentum", and even if there is no scientific or statistical evidence that a past winning streak is related to future results, it is still taken into account and reflected in the coefficients.

When it comes to sports, there is a widely held opinion in the betting world that betting based on "momentum" is a fairly profitable strategy. The main idea is that there is "momentum" in sports, whether it is between games, or in a specific game, and it is the duty of a good sports bettor to use it to their advantage. If they manage to carefully consider everything while the winning streak continues, it can bring them great profits and exceptional betting skills.

However, this approach seems to be more suitable for casual, more random sports bettors who are more inclined to make decisions based on "momentum". Or for those bettors who tend to equate sports betting with casino games.

This approach can also be tailored to more advanced and professional sports bettors who carefully follow winning streaks and analyze how those streaks can affect a team's performance in future matches, for example, upcoming Premier League matches.

However, the truth is that there is no evidence or established statistical connections between "momentum" and future results. Therefore, fully relying on "momentum" as a suitable betting criterion is not advisable.

"Momentum" refers to a higher perceived probability of winning/success, based on the assumption that if a team experiences a winning streak (wins several times in a row), it will win the next games as well. In short, it is simply a belief that a team (or individual player) will win because they have recently won several times in a row. It is often said that this team is currently "riding the momentum" and will achieve even more victories.

Experiencing a winning streak is truly amazing, as it can also influence the performance in the next game. This phenomenon is uplifting, rejuvenating, and motivating for players. In fact, it is everything one needs to do exceptionally well. Due to the so-called "momentum", record-breaking teams, outstanding athletes, and overall progress in sports previously unimaginable can be witnessed.

According to psychologists and sports analysts, "momentum" is nothing but a "perception" that provides a lot of perseverance, thereby giving the team players immense confidence. Indeed, they gain so much self-confidence that eventually allows them to use their skills more effectively and efficiently, thereby achieving more. As a result, they often win more matches, display the same good performance, and ultimately achieve more victories, contributing to their winning streak.

However, while this can influence the athletes or the team, it has nothing to do with how sports bettors make their betting decisions. Essentially, this perspective, when trying to predict what will happen in the future by attaching great importance to past success, has certain limitations.

"Momentum" is very subjective, and although there is a prevailing strong belief that it affects a team's performance and their chances of winning, in the end, there is nothing tangible to confirm this argument. In some cases, excessive confidence in "momentum" when making profitable betting decisions (in activities such as online betting) may lead to opposite results.

For example, consider a points spread bet that you can place on any popular English betting site. Even if there is a widespread belief that a team has "momentum", the predicted points spread may not reflect the real situation. Bettors who believe in the team's "momentum" make their betting decisions, and later often face losses because the team may feel too much pressure and have unrealistic expectations simply because they have been on a winning streak.

Such a thing in activities like sports betting is not uncommon, and it is a fact that players always have to consider and understand, that their choices are influenced by perceived "momentum".
