On Monday, the final Championship play-off match took place at the Wembley Stadium in London. Two clubs fought for the last ticket to the Premier League in England - Huddersfield Town against Reading. After a dramatic penalty shootout, Huddersfield club secured their place in the country's top league. Newcastle United and Brighton teams had already secured their tickets to the Premier League earlier, so the fight for the last spot was between the 3rd and 6th place teams in the Championship. Reading defeated Fulham in the semi-finals, while Huddersfield Town defeated Sheffield United. Both teams fought for their tickets to the final and clashed at Wembley Stadium today. The 90 minutes of the match were not enough as the teams played extra time, but neither managed to score. This meant that the promotion to the Premier League would be decided in a penalty shootout. Huddersfield's team scored their second penalty, but Reading, who had confidently converted their first 11 penalties, missed the last two shots and Huddersfield Town triumphed at Wembley Stadium. The last time Huddersfield club competed in the top English division was 45 years ago. In the past, when the league was not called the Premier League, Huddersfield Town became the country's champions three times in a row - in 1924, 1925, and 1926.
