Having shown himself from the good side at the World Cup, Igor Akinfeev decided to retire from the Russian national team.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper announced that the World Cup was the last stop representing the national team. The goalkeeper's farewell to it was quite successful - Russia marched to the quarterfinals in the global championship.
I. Akinfeev opened the national team doors back in 2004. Throughout wearing the Russian national team jersey, he played 111 matches.
A Russian playing for Moscow CSKA club since the beginning of his career, he participated in two World Cups and four European championships.
The main goalkeeper of the Russian national team should now become Guilherme, a Brazilian citizen.
